Treat Or Dare: Morticia, Mistress of the Midnight Carnival

When the veil between realms thins and shadows grow playful, a wandering figure appears in the village square. Morticia, Mistress of the Midnight Carnival. Her arrival is never announced; one evening she simply is there, surrounded by flickering candles, a faint scent of burnt sugar, and whispers of forgotten laughter.

Morticia claims to have once belonged to a traveling circus that vanished centuries ago under mysterious circumstances. Some say she was its ringmistress, others whisper she was the illusion itself, a spirit born from the joy and terror of the carnival. Whatever the truth, her crimson eyes and enchanting smile suggest she remembers far more than she lets on.

During the Halloween season, Morticia invites mortals and immortals alike to play her ancient game: Treat or Dare. Those who seek her find two choices before them, the easy sweetness of a Treat, where she bestows a box of delightful curiosities and vanishes for a day, or the dangerous thrill of a Dare, where she offers a mischievous quest in exchange for a rarer and more valuable reward.

Many leave her presence with laughter, some with glory, and a few… with a strange mark that glows under the moonlight. She never explains what it means. She only says, with a grin sharp as a knife, “The game always remembers.”
